What is the Post-Separation Abuse Advice Group?
This group is for people who are experiencing ongoing abuse after separation from a partner, including continued coercive control, harassment and attempts to manipulate or undermine child contact arrangements. It provides a structured, advice-focused space to help participants understand post-separation abuse and explore practical ways to respond. It will run on a 5 week rolling course.
How is the peer group run?
The peer group runs for 5 weeks and is offered face-to-face with a small group of women. This is a safe space to share your experiences, explore your feelings, and your relationships.
The group topics are as follows:
• Controlling and coercive behaviour
• Creating Boundaries
• Protecting Children
• Financial Welfare
• Recovering from Abuse
Group Aims
The group aims to support clients who are experiencing continued abuse from ex-partners and will help them to:
Identify patterns of controlling and abusive behaviour after separation
Understand how abuse can continue through child contact and other forms of communication
Develop and maintain clear, safe boundaries
Explore practical strategies for responding to abusive behaviours and increasing safety
The course will also provide information about parental responsibility, child contact, and safeguarding considerations. Relevant legal principles will be explained in an accessible way to help clients feel more informed and empowered about their rights and the responsibilities of the other parent.
